Europe-wide
industrial strength. The SPHERE group developed
its co-extrusion technology nearly 30 years ago.
The resulting multi-layer film offers significant
advantages in terms of strength, appearance, resistance
to cold, welding and sealing resistance, protection
from bacteria and UV radiation, and impermeability
to lubricants and colouring agents.
Today, we continue to process some 130,000
metric tons of polyethylene a year, but
the emergence of biopolymers has led us to build
up the production of film made from renewable plant-based
materials, using the same machinery and
equipment.
We have also branched out from our traditional
activity as a plastics processor to become a producer
of biopolymer resin by investing in our Biotec facility
in Germany and, shortly, a new site in France.
Another important area of business is in foil and
film rewinding and packaging, where recently acquired
plants in a number of European countries have positioned
us to supply local markets with consumer household
and food wraps. Our largest Frenchsite, in Normandy,
was recently equipped with a controlledatmosphere
white room designed to guarantee the highest standards
of hygiene for rolled products used in the preparation
and storage of food – aluminium foil, baking
paper and cling film. SPHERE is now, more than ever,
a force to be reckoned with in this sector. |
