SPHERE is staying
ahead of changes in the plastics industry by launching
the development of a wide range of household packaging
and wrapping products made from renewable, biodegradable
materials. Our subsidiary BIOTEC progresses through
the development phase, then produces and distributes
fully biodegradable thermoplastics made from natural
materials and offering varied properties that allow
for a wide range of applications.
Six ways in which Bioplast biopolymers protect
the environment.
• Biodegradable : absorbed
naturally into ordinary soil through the action
of bacteria, via a process that takes 180 days at
most. Only water, mineral salts, carbon dioxide
and organic matter are left afterwards.
• Renewable : made from materials
taken from plants, which may be annual crops, such
as potatoes, or have longer life cycles, as is the
case for trees. They are living organisms that can
reproduce indefinitely provided they have light,
water and nutrients.
• Compostable : decompose
naturally to form humus.
• Reusable : have the same
technical properties as ordinary polyethylene film
and remain stable unless they are exposed to biodegradation
conditions.
• Recyclable and incineratable
: while the natural end to the life-cycle of used
biopolymers is through
composting, they can also be reused or recycled.
